Görkem Çakmak is only 20 years old. Until 5 years ago, he had been leading a normal and a very happy life as a highschool freshman.
         5 years ago, he was admitted to Dokuz Eylül University Hospital with high blood pressure. He was diagnosed with a clogged aorta and was immediately scheduled for an open heart surgery. Life for Görkem and his family, however, would never be the same after the surgery of July 20, 2003.
         Due to complications during the surgery, his brain suffered apoxia and he was diagnosed brain dead.
Görkem remained in coma for 18 months at the Intensive Coronary Care Unit and another 12 months at the Cardiology Unit.
        During this trying and difficult period, his family never lost faith and hope. They used everything within their means to struggle, despite doctors' unfavorable attitude. Their struggle still goes on today.
        Recently, a new hope has arisen for Görkem-- Stem Cell Transplant in China. However, the cost of such treatment, which is only available in China, reaches 300,000 YTL (approximately $250,000). This is far beyond our means. Therefore, our only way out is the support of generous and kind-hearted individuals.
       We, hereby, thank everyone who have extended help one way or other.
